Your First Knit Garment (Made Simple) Go from swatch to wearable—with confidence Time to get serious and knit a real garment—without overwhelm. In this guided workshop, we’ll take a beautifully simple design and work through it step by step, demystifying the parts that usually feel intimidating and giving you the skills to knit garments you’ll actually wear. We’ll start at the very beginning with a gauge swatch (yes, that gauge swatch—made clear and approachable), then move into understanding ease, choosing the right size, and making small, thoughtful pattern adjustments so your finished piece fits you. From there, we’ll knit together from the bottom up while learning clean, professional techniques along the way. This is a supportive, hands-on class where mistakes are expected, questions are encouraged, and troubleshooting happens in real time—and your support doesn’t end when class does. What you’ll learn - How to swatch (and actually use your gauge) - Understanding ease and choosing the right size - Simple pattern adjustments for a better fit - Knitting bottom-up garments - Right-leaning & left-leaning decreases - Picking up stitches with confidence - Polished i-cord straps - How to fix and troubleshoot common mistakes What’s included - In-person, step-by-step instruction in a small, supportive group - Fit guidance and real-time troubleshooting during class - Access to the accompanying online course, with clear videos you can revisit anytime as you continue knitting at home - Membership in our Sima Fiber Club online community, where you can ask questions, share progress, and get support as you finish your garment - Access to discounted yarn + tool kits (optional add-on) Yarn and tools are not included in the base price, but curated kits are available for purchase at a student discount so you can show up prepared without overthinking.
